Seagate has this week announced its second-generation Momentus XT hybrid platform for laptops, which it describes as the “fastest drive ever” made for PC systems.
According to Seagate, the new 2.5-inch XT line promises to deliver speeds almost 70 percent faster than the previous Momentus drive and up to three times faster than conventional HDD drives.
In terms of core specifications, it comes with a roomy 750GBs of data storage, a Serial ATA 6Gbits/s interface, and 8GBs of Single Level Cell NAND flash storage—thereby doubling the interface and NAND performance of the XT’s predecessor.
The new XT is powered by Seagate’s Adaptive Memory and “FAST Factor” technology platforms, which combine to enable laptop users to enjoy “faster access to all of their content” via solid-state speed, easy installation, and an affordable price.
Other performance-boosting aspects include the “Fast Boot” feature, which Seagate claims will halve the start-up times of computers currently utilizing the previous generation of Momentus drive.
Prominent equipment manufacturers partnering with Seagate—and therefore likely to carry the Momentus XT in their systems—include the likes of Dell, ASUSTeK, Sony and Toshiba.
The Seagate Momentus XT comes attached to a retail price of $245 USD (recommended) and is available now through online retail outlets such as Amazon, Newegg, Canada Computers, CDW and Tiger Direct.
