New Super Mario Bros. Wii hits 10.5 million sales

While you may think Nintendo fans had enjoyed their fair share of New Super Mario Bros. when it took the market-leading DS console by storm in May of 2006, sales attributed to the revamped Wii version show that to be anything but the case.
Moreover, having already sold some 20 million copies of the handheld action platformer, Nintendo’s swimming pool of cash is now even deeper after New Super Mario Bros. Wii recently pushed beyond 10 million worldwide unit sales.
According to industry figures offered up by Japanese research specialist Enterbrain, the Wii iteration of New Super Mario Bros. has sold a staggering 10.5 million units around the world since its retail arrival on November 15.
In terms of regional breakdown, the game has sold more than 4.5 million units across North America, and 3 million units each in both Europe and Japan.
Other accolades secured by New Super Mario Bros. Wii include it surpassing Super Mario Galaxy as the current best-selling game exclusive to the Wii, and earning the ELSPA’s Double Platinum sales award in the UK.
It has also entered the record books as the fastest-selling Wii game in Japan thanks to opening-week sales of more than 930,000 units.
