Continuing the week’s flurry of new camera arrivals, imaging specialist Nikon has followed market rivals Sony and Panasonic in updating its portfolio of snap-happy offerings.

The standout addition for photography enthusiasts is the Coolpix P510, which delivers full manual controls, an impressive 42x optical zoom lens (24mm to 1000mm), optical image stabilization, and a superb minimum macro focus distance of 0.4 inches.

Other features aboard the $430 USD camera include, a 3.0-inch LCD screen, a CMOS image sensor, a very capable 16 mega-pixels of performance, built-in GPS, Full 1080p video capture, and 5fps continuous shooting at full resolution.

Another unit worth looking at is the compact Coolpix P310, which is a smaller, point-and-shoot device supported by a wide F1.8 maximum aperture, a 4.2x optical zoom (24mm to 100mm), 16 mega-pixels of performance, and 1080p video.

Priced at $330 USD, the P310 also comes with an Advanced Night Portrait mode, a Night Landscape mode, and a High Dynamic Range mode (HDR) for the correction of backlit images.

The Coolpix P510 is expected before the close of February, and the P310 should be available in March.
