Beyond the obvious appeal of its three-dimensional graphics, the Nintendo 3DS offers so much more than its Nintendo DS predecessor. For example, the recently launched portable console is now also playing host to Nintendo Video.
Officially launched on 3DS yesterday (July 13) across Europe and Australia, the service will show distinctly child-friendly 2D and 3D content such as cartoons (i.e., Oscar’s Oasis in 3D), along with music videos and programmes about the performance of magic tricks.
Nintendo Video is available as a free download from the 3DS Shop and content updates will be delivered automatically via SpotPass whenever the host system is in a Wi-Fi zone.
Although not yet available to our gaming cousins across the pond, Nintendo Video is also expected to hit North America before the summer’s end.
Nintendo Video’s clear lack of original programming and movies will apparently be rectified in 2011 when hugely popular streaming service Netflix comes to the 3DS console.
