No accounting for taste: Duke Nukem Forever tops UK chart

After almost 15 years of development, the long, long, long-awaited release of Duke Nukem Forever has been met by a barrage of largely negative review scores… but it would appear absence truly does make the heart grow fonder where willing consumers are concerned.

Moreover, the sci-fi console shooter has surged to the top of the UK videogame charts, knocking Rockstar’s critically adored L.A. Noire from its lofty perch and (partially) proving that the ass-kicking Duke and his sharp-edged flattop do indeed have a faithful fan base.

Of course, it remains to be seen how much chart traction Forever can muster in the long term, which will likely be influenced by whether the game’s crass humour, 80’s one liners, and blatant female nudity appeal to the current generation of shooter fans attuned to hyper realistic military experiences.

Other games of note displaced by Duke Nukem Forever include PlayStation 3 exclusive action adventure InFamous 2 (4), Codemasters racer DiRT 3 (6), sci-fi epic Brink (7), and Red Faction: Armageddon (8).

Developed by Gearbox Software (via 3D Realms), Duke Nukem Forever is available now on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Games for Windows.
