No ridiculous Prestige Edition of Modern Warfare 3

Back in 2010, videogame publisher Activision drummed up interest in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 by unveiling a selection of software bundles that culminated in an outrageously priced but undeniably tempting Prestige Edition of its lead-heavy military sequel.
Sadly, while many gamers flocked to snap up the Prestige Edition, which included fully functioning night vision goggles and a selection of other goodies, developer Infinity Ward has said Modern Warfare 3 won’t be accompanied by the same wanton extravagance.
Speaking via micro-blogging service Twitter, Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling confirmed that only a Standard Edition and Hardened Edition of Modern Warfare 3 will be available at launch.
The slightly more muscular Hardended Edition will sell for $99.99 USD and will include a full year’s subscription to the Call of Duty Elite online service.
Neither developer nor publisher has officially revealed why Modern Warfare 3 won’t have its own Prestige Edition, but we’re betting the world’s best-selling videogame series no longer needs the added exposure such ridiculous bundles create.
Gamers with stacks of disposable income to waste will likely be disappointed at today’s news, not least because Call of Duty: Black Ops came with a Prestige Edition that included a sexy remote-controlled car.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is expected to hit retail shelves on November 8.
