Already the biggest mobile phone manufacturer in the world, Finnish giant Nokia Corp. is reportedly about to further increase the appeal of its product line by introducing a version of Microsoft Office for its Symbian operating system.

The official announcement from Nokia and Microsoft, which is expected to arrive at some point today (Wednesday, August 12), could well result in Nokia handsets receiving the extra mobile muscle of productivity applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

According to the Reuters news agency, the software deal will be jointly announced by Stephen Elop, head of Microsoft’s Business Division, and Kai Oistamo, an executive vice president at Nokia Devices.

Although Microsoft has apparently declined to comment on the exact nature of today’s expected announcement, industry watchers are convinced it will concern Nokia’s embracement of Office.
