Evidently the technology market, crammed as it is, can always find room for just one more Netbook. And that’s exactly what it’s getting following news that Finnish mobile phone heavyweight Nokia Corp. is preparing to launch its own take on the popular portable computer.

According to Espoo-based Nokia, the world’s leading handset maker, its upcoming Booklet 3G device will run on the stalwart Windows XP operating system, come with a standard Intel Atom processor, a solid 10-inch LCD screen and weigh in at a little over a kilo – all Netbook prerequisites.

“A growing number of people want the computing power of a PC with the full benefits of mobility,” outlined Nokia Devices executive vice president Kai Oistamo in an official statement.

“We are in the business of connecting people and the Nokia Booklet 3G is a natural evolution for us,” he added.

With pricing and launch details expected to emerge this coming September 02, the Booklet 3G looks set to become yet ultra-mobile offering for the ever-increasing Netbook pile.

However, the originality of its Booklet branding to one side, Nokia’s first foray into the world of portable computer manufacturing might convincingly attract Netbook consumers thanks to its 3G/HSPA and Wi-Fi versatility, a promised 12 hours of battery life, onboard AGPS, and support for Nokia’s popular Ovi Suite of downloadable content.
