Nokia Corp. may well be the world's biggest mobile phone manufacturer, but the last week has seen it become distinctly light where high-powered executives are concerned.
More pointedly, the Espoo-based industry giant has lost Anssi Vanjoki, the head of its mobile solutions division, after he formally resigned his position.
“I felt the time has come to seek new opportunities in my life,” he commented in a statement. “At the same time, I am 100% committed to doing my best for Nokia until my very last working day.”
Vanjoki's resignation comes as something of a surprise considering that he only took the position in July of this year. The “very last working day” he mentioned in his statement will arise in the middle of March, 2011.
The loss of Vanjoki comes only a few days after Nokia officially replaced outgoing CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo with former Microsoft executive Stephen Elop.
Kallasvuo, a life-long employ at Nokia, had served as the company's chief executive officer since 2006.
