Prospective buyers of Barnes & Noble’s Nook electronic book reader will be thrilled to learn that the U.S. bookseller has officially announced the device’s return to retail after massive pre-Christmas demand caused a slight delay in availability.

Offered up in a company blog post on Monday, Barnes & Noble has said Nook customers can purchase units online immediately, while walk-in stores should be carrying the device by around Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

In order to pinpoint exactly which of Barnes & Noble’s bricks-and-mortar outlets will be stocked with the sassy dual-screen reader, customers are advised to visit the Nook In-Store Locator (click here), which will be updated daily as of February 10.

“Demand for Nook continues to be very high, and we’re pleased our customers will be able to try and buy Nook in our stores and online and enjoy it in time for the holiday,” commented barnesandnoble.com president Willian Lynch.

And in adding a little spice to the Nook’s re-emergence, Barnes & Noble has also said it will be offering Nook users access to exclusive books, cooking recipes and feature articles through its More In Store promotional service.

“In Barnes & Noble stores, Nook owners will enjoy exciting Nook-only content from their favourite authors and other valuable offers, along with fast and free in-store Wi-Fi, which Nook customers have been accessing in droves over the last few weeks,” added Lynch.

Available for $259 USD (the same price as the basic model of Amazon’s Kindle), the Nook comes complete with a main greyscale reading screen and a full colour touch-enabled navigation screen for perusing and purchasing downloadable content. It also carries 2GBs of storage capacity and is compatible with both AT&T 3G and Wi-Fi.
