Videogame giant Nintendo has today confirmed that its new Nintendo 3DS portable console will be officially launched in Japan on February 26, 2011, with gamers in the United States set to receive the device the following month.
The launch date was formally announced during a press conference in Japan, where Nintendo also showcased a selection of upcoming 3DS titles such as Animal Crossing, Chocobo Racing, Paper Mario, Metal Gear Solid, and the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The 3D-capable console, which delivers its effects without users being required to wear cumbersome glasses, will cost Ą25,000 ($298 USD) when it arrives in Japan. Nintendo has not yet revealed the new console's price point for the U.S. market.
Japanese third-party publisher Capcom also got in on the Nintendo 3DS action during the press event, revealing both Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries for the stereoscopic 3D platform.
