The delays are over. Disagreements regarding Google Wallet are evidently settled. And the accidental pre-release sales are behind us. Yes, folks, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone is finally here.
While we here at Tech Herald Towers would never dare trot out the old ‘iPhone killer’ cliché, we’re certainly confident that Samsung’s latest handset is full-on sexy, full of features, and an undeniably attractive alternative to Apple’s iconic slab.
Set to arrive on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, the Galaxy Nexus is powered by version 4.0 of Google Android (Ice Cream Sandwich), 1GB of RAM, and also an iPhone-eclipsing 1.2GHz dual-core processing platform.
It also has a massive 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED Contour Display, a resolution of 1280x720 at 316ppi, a HTML web browser, and 32GBs of on-board data storage.
Wait, we’re not finished. Samsung has also packed in front and rear cameras (1.3 and 5.0 mega-pixels respectively), 1080p video recording, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0, Android Beam content sharing, and support for Mobile Hotspot connectivity.
And the price? Well, you’re looking at $299.99 USD alongside a two-year service contract with Verizon Wireless. By way of contrast, the $299.99 USD version of the iPhone 4S offers up more… and less… than the Galaxy Nexus.
For example, while Apple’s latest smartphone has only a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MBs of RAM, a 3.5-inch screen and 3G connectivity, it does have an 8.0 mega-pixel primary camera, Retina resolution visuals at 330ppi, Bluetooth 4.0, and the acclaimed Siri personal assistant.
So, with the two handsets quite closely aligned, it’s really all down to personal preference…
