Arriving hot on the heels of the recent unveiling of a mobile phone partnership between Eee PC manufacturer ASUSTek (ASUS) and navigation specialist Garmin, official specifications have now been released regarding their initial G60 nuvifone handset.

Set to arrive as a smartphone rival to the likes of Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry line, the G60 will come sporting a 3.55-inch touch-screen display (272x480), an “advanced” mobile HTML browser, and region-based preloaded Garmin maps covering North America, Eastern Europe and Western Europe.

Under the hood, the quad-bad GSM handset will offer HSDPA support, a 3.0 mega pixel camera (with auto-focus and geo-tagging), Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, onboard GPS, and “ground-breaking” LBS application Ciao!, which allows users to keep tabs on their friends through a selection of location-centric social networks.

Not just releasing information on the confirmed G60 smartphone, ASUS and Garmin have also whipped the covers off the upcoming M20 nuvifone, which will run on Windows Mobile 6.1 and a Qualcomm 7200A processor (528MHz), while providing a 2.8-inch VGA touch-screen display (640x480) with accelerometer, a 3.0 mega pixel camera, a choice of 4GBs or 8GBs of data storage, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, GPS, Cioa!, and Garmin maps.

Pricing and regional availability for both the G60 and M20 models of the nuvifone range will be released before the end of Q2, 2009. And, if you happen to be in Barcelona right now, then ASUS and Garmin are offering more focus on the phones during this week’s Mobile World Congress trade show.
