One 'Nintendo Wii Supreme' gets you almost 2,500 regular Wiis

Mmm, so very tasteful. Image: Goldstriker.
When the Nintendo Wii first took retail by storm in the November of 2006, demand was such that eBay rip-off merchants galore were selling standard systems for exorbitant prices as the Christmas rush loomed. Arriving a little late to that particular cash-in party, but certainly taking the win when it comes to extravagant pricing, is the new Nintendo Wii Supreme.
Crafted over a period of six months by Stuart Hughes of UK luxury goods specialist Goldstriker, the gaudily excessive Wii is being touted as the world’s most expensive iteration of Nintendo’s motion-sensing home videogame console – thanks to a truly bowel loosening and bank account-destroying asking price of 300,000 GBP (approx $485,000 USD).
Sadly, however, if you’ve got such a massive sum of money to splash on the latest Goldstriker creation, it unfortunately won’t get you a console any more technically equipped than a regular unit available from your local consumer electronics store for less than $200 USD.
No, the ‘value’ of the Nintendo Wii Supreme lies firmly within the 2.5 kilos of 22-carat gold that’s been slathered across its outer casing and accompanying base stand, and also the 78 diamonds that encrust the console’s front-facing ‘Power’, ‘Reset’ and ‘Eject’ buttons.
With only three ‘Nintendo Wii Supreme’ units available for sale, you’d better quickly call in a wrecking ball crew to smash that mammoth oversized piggybank you and the rest of your blood relatives have been feeding for the last half dozen generations.
Of course, if you have any modicum of sense… and taste… you may perhaps want to head to Best Buy or Circuit City instead.
Other rampantly obscene devices covered in gold and diamonds by the team at Goldstriker include various BlackBerry and iPhone handsets ranging from a ‘modest’ 4,000 GBP (approx. $6,500 USD) to a fairly frightening 140,000 GBP (approx. $227,000 USD).
Of course, the (cough) jewel in Goldstriker’s crown is most definitely its recently unveiled iPhone 3GS Supreme, which carries an astronomical price of 1.92 million GBP (approx. $3.1 million USD) thanks to a 22-carat solid gold covering encrusted with a total of 116 flawless diamonds, and an eye-popping 7.1-carat rock sunk into the smartphone’s power button.
Yuck.
