While the above computer system may look like a slab of shoulder-destroying ‘portable’ hardware from the early noughties, its cutting-edge internals more than ably support the age-old adage of never judging a notebook by its cover.

According to Miami-based Origin PC, its latest EON-branded creation is described as “the most powerful laptop on the market for gamers, artists, enthusiasts, and professionals”—and, after perusing the spec sheet, we’re inclined to agree.

Indeed, hardcore gaming fans are likely to be intrigued by the new EON17-X, which packs an almighty punch thanks to the use of Intel’s X79 chipset technology and Intel’s seriously serious second-generation Hexcore processors.

“The EON17-X is more powerful than a lot of desktops on the market,” trumpeted Origin co-founder and chief executive Kevin Wasielewski in an official statement. “You won’t find a more powerful laptop anywhere else.”

Factor in a 17.3-inch 1080p display, a pair of overclocked 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M graphics processors, an SLI bridge, up to 32GBs of quad-channel memory, and up to 3TBs of hard drive space, and there’s little reason not to get excited.

Sadly, however, ‘little reason’ is not ‘no reason’, and we’ll therefore ask you to look the other way while we reveal that the EON17-X comes attached to a “fully customizable” starting price of $3,159 USD. You can look back now.

Other bits and bobs thrown into Origin’s latest system include a customizable backlit keyboard with two lighting zones and seven colors, a lifetime 24/7 phone and online service, and a 1 to 3 free part replacement warranty.

Oh, and a 3D version of the system—complete with an internal 3D emitter—is set for release before the close of the second quarter.

Astronomical price or not, we still want one for review. Are you listening, Origin?
