In a move to clear European retail shelves ahead of the arrival of its Next Generation Portable (NGP/PSP2), Sony Computer Entertainment has announced an almost 30 percent price reduction to its existing PlayStation Portable (PSP).
Specifically, the 179.99 Euro price tag attached to the PSP has been dropped to a more piggybank-friendly 129.99, which follows on from a similar 129.99 USD price cut rolled out in the U.S. market back in February.
“The price cut is aimed at increasing the adoption of the player in Europe,” commented a Sony spokesperson regarding the adjustment—although we here at The Tech Herald see it as a bit of strategic stock clearing.
Sadly for prospective buyers in the United Kingdom, Sony has cited the continuing strength of the pound as its reason for not implementing the price drop in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
As such, the UK version of the PSP will retain its hefty 129.99 GBP price, which equates to approximately 147 Euros or $212 USD.
