Perfect self-portraits with the Samsung DualView

Perfectly designed for budding social networkers and borderline narcissists with a penchant for indulging in photographic self-importance, Samsung’s new DualView TL220 compact camera comes equipped with the convenience of not one but two LCD view screens.

While many compacts offer little more than modest mirrored areas on their fronts when it comes to framing self-portraits, the new DualView’s front-facing screen (1.5 inch) and touchscreen rear-facing display (3.0 inch) mean the frustration of multiple attempts is all-but removed.

“The growing popularity of social networking sites has given rise to the self-portrait,” trumpeted Samsung in its official release, “with many consumers turning their digital cameras on themselves” to create a quick profile picture or to add pictures to specific online photo albums.

Other technical aspects linked to the DualView camera include a 12.2 mega pixel sensor, a 4.6x zoom, a 27-mm wide-angle Schneider Kreuznach lens, video recording capabilities to a resolution of 720p, and Smile Detection technology.

While there’s little doubting the enhanced convenience of Samsung’s DualView digital camera, its basic price of $300 USD might dissuade most prospective buyers from splashing the cash when it hits retail in September.

A slightly more expensive $350 USD model (the pictured DualView TL225) equipped with a larger 3.5-inch rear screen is also on the way.
