PlayStation Vita memory cards come with hefty price tags

Anticipation for the swanky PlayStation Vita portable videogame console may have taken a knock this week after GameStop revealed the price points connected to the platform’s memory cards. It’s not good news, Sony fans.
Indeed, with ‘austerity’ being one of 2011’s most overused buzz words, Sony is asking its customer base to fork out a hefty $30 USD for the Vita’s smallest 4GB memory card.
And it only gets worse considering that 8GBs will cost $45 USD, 16GBs will cost $70 USD, and the upper tier 32GB card comes attached to a testing retail tag of $120 USD—which is almost half the price of the baseline Vita.
The real kicker for those looking forward to enjoying the Vita experience is that Sony’s memory cards are proprietary and simply opting for a cheaper alternative therefore won’t be possible.
So, if prospective Vita buyers want to use memory space for anything more taxing than game saves (i.e., full game downloads and movies), the console’s actual price is likely to be between $320 USD and $420 USD. Ouch.
This gadget-lover’s enthusiasm has suddenly dipped somewhat. What say you?
