Evidently not content with its recent legal victory against Apple regarding use of the iPad trademark in China, monitor maker Proview International is now looking to prevent iPad tablet computers from being imported into the country.
“We are preparing requests to customs for blocking iPad imports,” confirmed Proview’s legal representative Xie Xianghui in a related AFP report.
Earlier this week, officials from the Administration of Industry and Commerce (AIC) began confiscating iPad units from retailers and resellers in China after a court ruled in December that Apple had infringed upon Proview’s local rights.
Although Proview registered the ‘ipad’ brand name in several countries—including China—in the year 2000, Apple subsequently purchased branding rights from the Taiwanese tech specialist prior to the launch of its tablet computer.
However, legal wrangling between the two has flared after Proview claimed the deal with Apple did not include rights for the Chinese market.
According to Apple, it bought the “worldwide rights” to the iPad trademark in 10 different countries a number of years ago and Proview is simply refusing to honor their agreement.
