Real-life game of 'Frogger' has predictably painful ending

When tackling classic 1981 arcade game Frogger, players needed only incredible hand-eye coordination to successfully guide a pixelated frog across a stretch of road increasingly populated by roaring traffic.

Despite being challenging to the point of infuriation, the Konami-developed action experience was only ever perilous for the virtual amphibian.

However, an impromptu real-life game of Frogger became potentially deadly this week when an unnamed 23-year-old man from South Carolina was struck by a hurtling SUV while attempting to dodge vehicles on a busy highway intersection.

According to local police chief Jimmy Dixon, the young man was discussing the original arcade game with a group of friends at around 9 p.m. on Monday, when one of them suddenly shouted ‘Go!” and he launched himself into four lanes of onrushing traffic.

Quickly deprived of the opportunity to amass any form of boast-worthy ‘high score’, the prime example of stunted evolution was promptly slammed into by a 2010 Lexus sports utility vehicle.

Lucky to be alive, the human frog is currently recovering from his injuries at a nearby hospital in the town of Anderson.

No charges are likely to be brought against the man driving the Lexus—although we here at The Tech Herald would be tempted to reprimand him for not driving fast enough.
