In a move designed to expand its media reach, American vending machine specialist Redbox has now begun offering its customer base easy access to popular videogame titles.

With around 64 percent of American’s owning a videogame console, the arrival of Redbox game rentals in some 21,000 locations is certainly likely to entice plenty of consumer foot traffic in and out of carriage stores such as Walmart.

The Illinois-based company has said its machines will carry everything from new releases through to family and kids titles, all of which will initially be spread across the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii home consoles.

Some of the titles making up the initial Redbox selection include the likes of Duke Nukem Forever, Infamous 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Brink, Red Faction Armageddon, L.A. Noire, Homefront, DiRT 3, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Daily rental costs $2.00 USD (plus tax where applicable) and is achieved by swiping a credit card at any participating vending kiosk.

The customer gets to keep a rental game if not returned within 30 days ($60 USD), after which time Redbox will dispatch the software disc’s accompanying box and instruction manual.
