If a new forward-looking consumer report is to be believed, 2012 will see the popularity of tablet computers gather so much momentum that existing platform owners will willingly shell out on a second device.

That’s according to predictions offered up by Deloitte, which claims several million tablet users will once again dip into their pockets in order to secure the market’s latest and greatest tablet creations.

“Around five million tablets will be sold to people who already own one in 2012, generating up to £1.3 billion in revenue for technology businesses,” outlined Jolyon Barker, Deloitte’s head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications in a Telegraph report.

“It is worth remembering that it took several decades after introduction for more than five percent of households to have more than one car, phone, radio or TV,” Barker added.

The ever-increasing saturation of tablet computers in 2012 will likely see consumers flocking en-masse to the Apple iPad3, which is due to arrive in March.

Other hardware additions will see Samsung boosting its family of Galaxy Tab computers, while ASUSTeK will also flesh out its line of acclaimed Eee Pad Transformers.
