Following on from news that Samsung is to hack down the price point of its Chromebook portable computer, French-language technology website Blogeee is this week claiming Samsung is to abandon its netbook product line.
According to the report, Korean manufacturer Samsung has unveiled its plans via an official notification email dispatched to its business partners, in which it outlines a shift in focus towards larger, more capable Ultrabook platforms.
“Following the introduction of our new strategy in 2012, we will discontinue our 10.1-inch (netbook) product range in Q1 2012, in favor of ultraportables (11.6 and 12 inches) and ultrabooks to be launched in 2012,” cites the report (via translation).
Last week we reported that both Samsung and Acer are to reduce the prices of their compact Chromebook devices in an effort to lure consumers towards the Google-powered computers—which have been largely overshadowed by tablets during 2011.
The 12.1-inch Samsung Series 5 Chromebook (1.66GHz/16GBs) will be dropped by around 30 percent, bringing its asking price down to $299 USD.
