When it comes to providing the Internet with an intrinsically simple and clean micro-blogging platform, the mighty Twitter stands alone and is all-but unrivalled in the marketplace.

However, its lofty position could soon be under threat from a new social networking service created by UberMedia, a company built on crafting applications for… you guessed it… Twitter.

What’s more, according to a CNN report on the rumored service, it’s likely to pander to those who complain about certain Twitter aspects by boasting a more accessible user interface and by removing the 140-character restriction associated with tweet composition.

It’s also worth noting that UberMedia’s apparent intent to unseat Twitter might be partially grounded in something of a patchy history between the two parties. Specifically, Twitter refused to approve three of UberMedia’s app submissions during the month of February, deeming them to be in violation of company policies.

UberMedia has not offered any official comment on the CNN report, saying only that its desire “is to continue to innovate on the Twitter platform and bring more users and usage to Twitter.”

Whispers regarding the rival network come after Twitter last week published usage statistics outlining that its 200 million registered users are presently sending 155 million tweets a day—which equates to a massive 282 percent year-on-year increase.
