It’s not even a month since media mogul Rupert Murdoch launched The Daily, his supposedly iPad-exclusive news and current affairs magazine, and yet there are already reports suggesting it will soon be available on a host of other devices.
That’s according to the Wall Street Journal’s technology offshoot AllThingsD, which has this week said the much trumpeted subscription-based publication will be available for Honeycomb-flavoured Android tablets before the close of spring.
If true, the spring launch should provide The Daily’s staff with enough time to hammer out a variety of technical issues that are currently sullying the digital experience for its iPad readers.
That being said, CNN Money suggests creating an Android version of The Daily will spawn its own set of technical difficulties related to scaling, not least because the software’s host devices (i.e., the Dell Streak 7 and Motorola Xoom) vary in terms of screen sizes and resolutions.
Of course, there’s a much more pertinent issue that no amount of technical tinkering can fix where The Daily is concerned—namely that News Corp’s publication comes attached to a fee and offers very little that can’t be read for free elsewhere online.
