Music tastes differ from person to person, just as with allegiances to music themed videogames. For instance, some gamers may prefer Guitar Hero over Rock Band. And, with both offering similar interactive experiences and varied track listings, surely there is no definitive winner when it comes to setting one apart from the other.

However, many music game fans might find themselves gravitating towards Rock Band today after creators MTV and Harmonix revealed that an exclusive The Beatles: Rock Band edition of its hugely popular software package is set to take the gaming world by storm.

Considering that Apple still hasn’t cemented a deal to offer The Beatles catalogue through its all-conquering iTunes Store, today’s announcement could be seen as something of a coup – and could potentially arrive as a stinging blow to Activision’s Guitar Hero franchise.

Set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii on September 09 of this year, the lone game will cost existing Rock Band fans $59 USD, while the game and guitars will sell for $99 USD, and a limited edition premium band-specific bundle will cost a more pocket-testing $249 USD.

Of course, with music tastes differing so wildly and not everyone a dedicated follower of all things John, Paul, George and Ringo, those holding true to Guitar Hero and harbouring a penchant for more thrash-based tunes can always invest in Guitar Hero: Metallica.
