Content streaming specialist Roku has announced the upcoming availability of its Roku 2 player, which will come equipped with support for popular casual videogames such as Rovio’s hot-selling physics puzzler Angry Birds.
Beyond its new gaming credentials, the Roku 2 also boasts a sleek chassis overhaul and enhanced energy efficiency thanks to requiring less than two watts of operating power.
And, in terms of expanded content, the Roku 2 box provides support for new channels including AOL HD, FOXNews.com and Facebook—all of which will launch in the near future—along with Angry Birds sequels Rio and Seasons.
Set to arrive before the close of July, the new Roku 2 box will be available via HD (720p), XD and XS models (both offer 1080p and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1), which will retail for respective prices of $59.99 USD, $79.99 USD, and $99.99 USD.
Pushing the appeal of the upper-tier XS model, Roku is also touting its new motion-control Game Remote, which comes free alongside a full version of Angry Birds and a 2GB microSD memory card.
The Roku Game Remote is also compatible with HD and XD models of the Roku 2 box and will cost $29.99 USD complete with the bundled 2GB memory card.
Existing channels already established through Roku include the likes of Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, NBA Game Time, NHL GameCenter, UFC, Pandora, Flickr and Vimeo.
