Long since available as only an online purchase, the popular Roku XD streaming media player has this week made the transition onto regular retail shelves through Best Buy and Best Buy's online store.
“Customers can now grab a Roku off the shelf at Best Buy, take it home and be up and running, enjoying their favorite TV show, movie, music or sports team in just a matter of minutes,” trumpeted Anthony Wood, founder and CEO of Roku, with regard to the partnership with the country's “preeminent consumer electronics retailer”.
The Roku XD provides users with access to 1080p Full HD streaming, content support from the likes of Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and Crackle, Wi-Fi connectivity (cable is also supported), and an instant-replay remote device.
Other features bundled into the $80 USD set-top box include live and on-demand sports transmissions from NBA Game Time and NHL GameCenter, music from Pandora, MP3tunes, MOG, and Rdio, and social networking support from the likes of Facebook and Flickr.
