Rumor: Apple to reveal 7.85-inch iPad in Q4 2012

If a new rumor from DigiTimes is to be believed, Apple fans holding off making an iPad purchase until a smaller, more portable version is made available will have to wait for another year.

More pointedly, the report suggests that Cupertino-based Apple will be launching a 7.85-inch model of the iPad, but it won’t be ready until around the fourth quarter of 2012.

Although Apple is holding its tongue regarding the existence of said device—as is its wont with the media—unnamed sources have said the smaller iPad is a reaction to the impressive sales racked up by Amazon’s 7.0-inch Kindle Fire device.

The rumor-mongering doesn’t stop there though. No, apparently shadowy figures from within the manufacturing supply chain have also claimed that Apple will be offering up the official iPad3 before the end of 2012’s first quarter.

Meanwhile, of course, Apple need only sit back and watch as we all fuss and fret about its future plans—before then reaping the benefits as we all flock like mindless sheep to purchase whatever it sees fit to launch.

Genius.
