Despite a multitude of reports to the contrary—all of which are built on spurious rumor and shadowy ‘insider’ information—the upcoming third-generation iPad will NOT be powered by quad-core processing technology.
That’s according to yet another rumor—this time unearthed by TheVerge—which claims mystery sources have indicated that although Apple’s latest A6 chip will push substantially more powerful visuals than the existing A5, it will retain its predecessor’s dual-core structuring.
The report’s information, if accurate, flies in the face of recent photos published by Boy Genius Report (BGR), which it claimed showcased debug data scalped from a prototype iPad 3.
Said images apparently confirmed the installation of a quad-core A6 chip sporting the hardware serial number S5L8945X—thus placing it in line with prior mobile chip platforms crafted by Apple.
If you can still muster the energy to be bothered, other fixtures and fittings ‘expected’ aboard the iPad 3 include, LTE (4G) connectivity, a high-resolution Retina Display touchscreen, a different camera, and a larger rechargeable battery.
It goes without saying that Cupertino-based Apple is remaining firmly tightlipped on the matter. Frankly, we’re beyond caring.
