While the Samsung Rogue might well be hogging the mobile phone spotlight thanks to its touch-screen interface, slide-out keyboard and rich array of messaging services, but it’s not the only new Samsung handset unveiled this week by Verizon Wireless.

Though not as immediately desirable as the Rogue, the new Samsung Intensity isn’t exactly a sloppy second thanks to a decent 2.1-inch display screen, a slide-out four-row QWERTY keyboard, and also dedicated swift access keys for Messaging and Favourites.

Equipped with a mobile Web browser for Internet access and an onboard music player, the Intensity also has a modest 1.3 mega pixel camera, memory expansion up to 16GBs via microSD, and communication services such as Mobile IM and Mobile Email, along with text, picture and voice messaging.

Attached to the Verizon Wireless network across the United States, the Intensity is also Media Center-capable and supports the download of games, ringtones, wallpapers and location-based services such as VZ Navigator.

The handset also supports Verizon’s V CAST Music with Rhapsody – although it’s worth noting that over-the-air downloads are not supported.

Available in colour choices of Charcoal Grey and Flamingo Red (online only), the Samsung Intensity costs a mere $29.99 USD after a $50 USD mail-in rebate and a mandatory two-year service contract.
