With the Alpha 680 expected to emerge this summer as one of the first Netbook computers to carry Google’s Android operating system, consumer electronics giant Samsung is set to expand the reach of Android on mobile platforms with its i7500.

According to PCWorld, the i7500 will arrive as the first smartphone handset to support Android and will deliver a 3.2-inch touch-screen display, a 5.0 mega pixel camera, and a solid 8GBs of onboard memory.

South Korean technology heavyweight Samsung has also said the i7500 is pencilled in for a release across European territories from June of this year, and will include network support for Wi-Fi and High Speed Packet Access (HSPA).

When it finally arrives, the Samsung i7500 smartphone will join existing Android-equipped mobile phones the HTC Dream (a.k.a. the Google G1) and the HTC Magic. Samsung has not revealed regional prices for its i7500 device.

The Android operating system has been developed by search specialist Google and contributing members of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), which includes the likes of Samsung, HTC, Intel, NVIDIA, T-Mobile, Motorola, LG, and Texas Instruments.
