Having recently tweaked its acclaimed yet contentious Galaxy Tab in a bid to outmaneuver Apple’s snappy legal hounds, is device maker Samsung now on the cusp of pushing its platform to break the boundaries of tablet technology?

Well, maybe so. Although presently limited to the confines of unsubstantiated rumor, a BGR report suggests Samsung is prepping a muscular 11.6-inch tablet device to help it wage war against the iPad in 2012.

While said tablet will supposedly sport an 11.6 retina display (16:10) and an eye-popping resolution of 2560x1600, the physical sizing won’t increase much over the existing 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab thanks to its markedly reduced bezel framing.

In terms of internals, the tablet’s oomph-factor will be taken care of by a growling 2GHz dual-core Cortex-based Exynos 5250 processor (system on a chip) and version 4.0 of Google’s Android operating system (Ice Cream Sandwich).

There’s no word yet on RAM allocation or data storage sizes, but the tablet is also likely to include Near Field Communications (NFC) support for Android Beam synchronization with devices such as the Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

Samsung is expected to formally unveil its 11.6-inch tablet computer during February’s upcoming Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.
