If you spend much of your existence downloading music, books, videogames, movies and TV shows from the Internet, chances are you either already own or are in serious need of an external storage solution that fits your spiralling digital addiction.
Whether duly equipped or on the prowl for a suitably spacious drive, it’s likely that Seagate’s new FreeAgent GoFlex will arrive as the perfect companion thanks to its truly whopping 3TBs of desktop storage. Really, who needs that much storage?
Announced as “the world’s first 3 Terabyte (TB) external desktop drive,” the GoFlex is capable of holding 120 HD movies, 1,500 videogames, thousands of photos and countless hours of digital music. It also comes equipped with automatic and continuous backup with software file encryption to keep data safe and secure.
And, beyond providing immense capacity and peace of mind, the GoFlex also meets user needs when it comes to varying performance and data transfer speeds, by offering the flexibility to adapt the drive’s USB 2.0 interface to a USB 3.0 or FireWire 800 connection (via a compatible GoFlex desktop adapter).
“Consumer capacity demands are quickly out-pacing needs of business as people continue to collect high-definition videos, photos and music,” commented Dave Mosley, executive vice president of sales, marketing and product line management at Seagate.
“Seagate has a tradition of designing products that break into new storage frontiers to meet customer requirements and the 3TB GoFlex Desk external drive is no exception – delivering the highest-capacity storage solution available today,” he added.
According to a report by Park Associates, the average consumer household will require 900GBs of digital media storage by the end of 2014, driven in large part by video downloads, managed copies of Blu-ray discs, and the increasing spread of DVR recording.
Compatible with both Windows PCs and Apple Mac computers (thanks to the inclusion of an NTFS driver), the sleek black GoFlex drive measures just 3.5 inches and is happy to sit either vertically or horizontally in the desktop environment.
You can buy it now via Seagate.com and through select retail outlets for $249.99 USD.
