With Gran Turismo 5 recently hit by yet another delay – and unlikely to arrive until the latter part of 2010 – white-knuckle driving opportunities are somewhat limited for PS3 gamers at the moment. And things just got a little worse, particularly for those with an insatiable need for speed.

Specifically, while upcoming titles such as Blur and Split Second hold considerable promise across multiple platforms, the tyre-shredding appeal of Need for Speed: Shift on Xbox 360 has increased this week after Electronic Arts announced a throbbing DLC pack filled with shiny red Italian sports cars.

That’s right, EA is looking to revitalising interest in its critically acclaimed racer by offering up a brand new downloadable pack that finally reunites the Need for Speed franchise with the roaring beauty of Ferrari after a seven-year disassociation.

The pack in question includes no less than 10 drool-inducing Ferrari beasts ranging from the Ferrari F50 GT, Ferrari F430 Spider, Ferrari FXX, Ferrari Superamerica and Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano through to the Ferrari F430 Challenge, Ferrari F430 GTC, Ferrari 430 Scuderia, Ferrari California and Ferrari 16M Scuderia Spider.

And, not content with simply rolling out a brand new Ferrari-centric showroom for 360 owners, EA’s downloadable pack also includes 46 new Ferrari challenges across Need for Speed: Shift events such as Hot Lap, Eliminator, Endurance and World Tour.

The Ferrari pack will be available from the Xbox Live Marketplace this coming February 16 and will cost 800 Microsoft Points. No word from EA regarding a PlayStation 3 equivalent at time of publication.
