Ever your faithful technology servants, we here at The Tech Herald take no joy in revealing that Sony’s somewhat patchy hardware reliability has once again reared its ugly head after the Japanese consumer electronics giant announced the recall of VAIO power bricks.

While someway short of the 9.6 million defective notebook batteries recalled by Sony in 2006, or the further 100,000 it later recalled in 2008, Sony has issued a cautionary recall for a modest 69,000 VAIO AC adapters (VGP-AC19V17) sold between September 2005 and October 2009.

The power bricks, which accompany Sony’s all-in-one VAIO desktop systems (VGC-LT and VGC-JS2) and the VAIO docking station, were manufactured in China by Sony Electronics Inc. of San Diego and sold through its SonyStyle store and also authorised business-to-business dealers across the United States.

Despite receiving only four related complaints – none of which resulted in user injury to U.S consumers – Sony is taking no chances with the potentially problematic AC power supplies due to the associated risk of failure and electric shock following prolonged usage.

More details regarding the recall can be found by clicking this official Sony esupport link, by phoning the following number: 877-361-4481, or by visiting CPSC.gov.
