The global reach of Google’s open mobile operating system Android is set to expand yet further after Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) this week confirmed it will begin offering the Android-equipped HTC Dream handset across the region before the end of the month.

Also known as the Google phone due to its wealth of pre-installed Google-branded software applications, such as Web Search, Gmail, and Google Calendar, the HTC Dream is expected to launch on this coming February 21, according to the communications company.

Having already found its way onto the shelves of Australian retailers through SingTel-owned Optus earlier this month, the Android-equipped mobile phone will be offered to customers for a mere $38 Singapore dollars when attached to a monthly subscription package of $95 Singapore dollars.

Beyond its Android operating system, the HTC Dream comes with touch-screen functionality, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, a “fun and intuitive” user interface, and also provides direct online access to a wealth of downloadable and unique mobile applications via Android Market.

Other features include high-speed 3.5G and Wi-Fi connectivity, a full HTML Web browser, a convenient trackball for one-handed navigation, a “large and vibrant” display screen, e-mail, Instant Messaging, mobile messaging capabilities, and a 3.2 mega pixel onboard camera.
