After scooping the coveted Which? award for Best Car Manufacturer back in May of this year, Czech car maker Skoda has this week seen its versatile Yeti crossover named Car of the Year 2010 by renowned motoring magazine Auto Express.

According to Auto Express editor in chief David Johns, the Yeti was deemed “truly worthy of being our Car of the Year,” thanks to offering fantastic value for money, great quality, driveability and reliability in a crossover package built on melding the best of a family hatchback with the appeal of a two-wheel or four-wheel SUV.

Speaking after the presentation, Skoda UK director Robert Hazelwood said: “This is a fantastic honour! We’re delighted that Auto Express thinks as highly of the Skode Yeti as we do. It’s a fantastic car and is selling well ahead of even our optimistic forecasts.”

Other notable winners during the Auto Express New Car Awards ceremony included Peugeot’s “exciting” new RCZ, which won both the Design Award and also the gong for Best Coupe.

In winning the Which? Best Car Manufacturer accolade earlier this summer, Skoda beat out the likes of Hyundai, Honda, Mazda, Volvo and Lexus.

Once chided for its dated image as a manufacturer, Skoda’s reputation began changing for the better after it became a subsidiary of German car-making heavyweight Volkswagen back in 1991.
