Skyfire Flash application so popular it's actually 'sold out'

Despite Apple’s well-documented dislike of Adobe, which has led the Cupertino gadget giant to refusing to host Flash on the iPhone and iPad, it would appear Apple end users still want Flash—regardless of accusations levelled by Steve Jobs regarding system crashes and glitches apparently spawned by Adobe’s player.

Case in point, the recently launched Skyfire application (version 2.0)—which serves as a Net browser and enables Flash video viewing on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad tablet—has caused such a stampede of consumer interest that the platform has sold out.

“Skyfire for iPhone has been received with unbelievable enthusiasm,” outlined Skyfire’s Robert Oberhofer in an official blog notification. “Despite our best attempts and predictions, the demand far exceeds our initial projections.”

Citing a degradation in video experience due to surging demand against the company’s servers, Oberhofer went on to say that a ‘Sold Out’ sticker has been temporarily slapped on Skyfire in the App Store until capacity has been increased to accommodate the demand.

Within just five hours of going live on Apple’s software portal, Skyfire ($2.99 USD) had become the top-grossing app, the third-highest paid overall, and the top app available through the store’s Utilities category.

“We are very grateful for the demand,” said Oberhofer. “Please bear with us as we bring capacity in line with the incredible demand—stay tuned.”
