Seemingly intent on working its way through the branding alphabet, consumer electronics titan Sony has unveiled the new VAIO E and W notebook series, which take their place alongside the existing VAIO F, S, Y and Z lines already padding out Sony’s product portfolio.
Equipped with Intel’s keen Core i3 processing technology, the VAIO E sports a generous 15.5-inch display (16:9 and 1366 x 768) and will deliver up to 4GBs of DDR3 RAM – with an even more oomph-worthy 6GB version available through the Net at Sony’s online store.
Other contributing aspects include a numerical keypad (a VAIO first), HDMI output, and an external SATA port for swift outside data storage.
Arriving with a distinct eco flavour, the new W series boasts a manufacturing process that embraces 80 percent recycled plastics, has Energy Star 5.0 certification for enhanced efficiency, and also carries a mercury-free display screen.
In terms of features and functions, the W series comes with a modest 10.1-inch display, an Intel Atom processor (both very Netbook-centric), and Microsoft’s acclaimed Windows 7 operating system (Starter Edition).
Officially thrust into the technology limelight during a press event in London, England, the new E and W series VAIOs are expected to hit retail outlets by March.
Final price points for the E series have not yet been divulged by Sony, while the eco-friendly W series should cost around 380 GBP (approx. $600 USD).
