Sony’s new touch-screen PlayStation Vita portable gaming console hasn’t yet been unleashed, but its makers are already dropping hints that future hardware incarnations could well be equipped with 3D visuals.
With Nintendo’s groundbreaking 3DS console making autostereoscopic waves at retail, Mick Hocking of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios hasn’t discounted the eventual integration of portable 3D gameplay.
“Of course in the future we may look to build the 3D experience onto a handheld,” said the company’s senior director while talking with Develop. “The tech is rapidly evolving, so we may well in the future include a high-quality 3D experience on the small screen.”
That being said, Hocking refused to be drawn on whether 3D functionality is likely to appear further down the line on the upcoming dual-analogue PlayStation Vita.
On Thursday of this week, Hocking is scheduled to deliver a Develop Conference keynote centred on the PlayStation 3’s first year of 3D functionality.
