With the ultra portable Netbook computer now well established as a popular and cheap alternative to standard notebook platforms, industry heavyweight Sony Corp. is preparing to make its first bid for a share of the market pie.
More pointedly, Sony has now unveiled its VAIO Mini W Series Netbook, which comes in a variety of colours and boasts convincingly compact design built around clean lines and gentle curves.
Aesthetics aside, the Mini W is powered by Intel’s eponymous 1.66GHz Atom N280 mobile processor, and supported by a full gigabyte of RAM, a spacious 160GB hard disk drive, and a solid 10.1-inch LCD display (1366 x 768 and 16:9).
Other contributing features and functions include Microsoft’s stalwart Windows XP operating system, an integrated Web cam, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports, a MemoryStick slot and promised battery life of around three hours.
Sony has yet to slap regional prices on its new Mini W Series VAIO, which is due to officially arrive at retail some time in August in colour flavours of berry pink, sugar white and cocoa brown.
