Having already made attempts to wow us with the widescreen and full keyboard sexiness of its sleek VAIO P, Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony Corp. is preparing to increase the appeal of its nifty ultra portable via a refreshed wave of hardware, according to online reports.

Specifically, the industry watchers at TechRadar have laid claim to incoming product information from an unnamed loose-lipped insider at Sony, who has intimated that a new version of the VAIO P will be hitting retail in the third quarter.

No further details regarding the new VAIO P have been forthcoming at this stage, although TechRadar offers that the original computer’s sluggish boot time will be significantly improved.

There are also suggestions the computer will function on Microsoft’s new Windows 7 operating system, which is due to launch in October.

What would be nice to see on any revised VAIO P offering, disappointing boot time and processor performance notwithstanding, would be to see Sony reduce the current price point (approx. $900 USD) to lean more actively towards cheaper Netbook competitors.

Sitting in the grey area between conventional notebooks and budget-friendly Netbooks, the VAIO P is a lightweight slice of hardware powered by an Intel Atom processor (distinctly Netbook) and comes equipped with 2GBs of RAM, a 128GB solid-state drive, Wi-Fi connectivity and an attractive 8-inch LCD screen capable of pushing a resolution of 1600 x 768.
