Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp. has this week joined the steady parade of device makers eager to announce their imminent embrace of Android v4.0.

More pointedly, the latest Ice Cream Sandwich variant of Google’s mobile operating system will soon arrive on Sony’s conventional Tablet S and clamshell Tablet P ultra-portable computers.

“We’re happy to confirm that an update to Android 4.0 will be available for Sony Tablets,” outlined the company in an official forum post.

However, unlike core market rival Samsung, Sony has not yet said exactly when its Tablet S will receive the Android upgrade—the dual-screen Tablet P still hasn’t been formally launched.

“Details including timing will be announced in due course, so please stay tuned,” Sony added.

In related news, soon-to-be-disbanded Sony Ericsson has also announced that Android v4.0 will be hitting an array of its branded smartphone devices during the first half of 2012.
