Ramp up your iPhone today. 4G is calling. Image: Sprint/Sierra Wireless.

If you fancy enjoying improved connectivity speeds through your 3G iPhone, and you don’t mind carting around an extra device that delivers said performance boost, then the good folks over at Sprint have just the thing in the form of the snazzy little Overdrive from Sierra Wireless.

Specifically, the Overdrive 4G Mobile Hotspot is described as “a mobile revolution” capable of pushing speeds up to 10 times that of a regular 3G iPhone running on the AT&T network.

According to an official commercial applauding the Overdrive’s capabilities as a mobile hotspot creator, Sprint’s diminutive box can “make your iPhone 4G” by simply and quickly connecting it to Sprint’s Clearwire-operated WiMAX network via the handset’s Wi-Fi radio.

Able to connect up to five different Wi-Fi enabled devices to the Clearwire WiMAX network (not just the iPhone), Spring claims the Overdrive can download and upload significantly more data – gigabytes not megabytes – in a matter of seconds and “is made for the multitude of bandwidth-hungry applications [that] customers want to access wirelessly, like video streaming.”

The Overdrive, which costs $100 USD after a mail-in rebate of $50 USD, also includes a handy LCD information screen relaying battery life and connection strength, along with a simple Web interface for settings customisation.

Easy, eh? Check out the commercial below for more:
