Although Final Fantasy XIII may be high on the ‘must play’ list of many PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners as its March 09 release date looms large on the gaming calendar, it’s not the only Final Fantasy property presently striving to secure its place in the retail spotlight.

Moreover, series creator Square Enix has this week revealed that 2002’s massively multiplayer (MMORPG) epic Final Fantasy XI is to receive a total of three new content expansion releases during 2010.

The three expansions, Vision of Abyssea, Heroes of Abyssea and Scars of Abyssea were unveiled during this past weekend’s Vana’Fest fan convention and will cost $10 USD each when they arrive later in the year.

According to Japanese developer and publisher Square Enix, the first of the three packs (Vision of Abyssea) will be available in the summer, and all will be compatible with the hardware platforms that currently play host to Final Fantasy XI – namely the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PC.

However, it is perhaps worth noting that the expansions cannot be accessed unless players already own existing add-ons Rise of the Zilart and Wings of the Goddess.
