It’s been a long, long time coming, but the actual honest-to-goodness retail release of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is almost upon us. And, as the July 27 launch creeps ever closer, developer and publisher Blizzard has announced a series of special retail events to mark the game’s release.
Specifically, leading videogame stores in European capital cities Berlin, London, Moscow, Paris and Stockholm will all be holding midnight launch events on July 26 for the highly anticipated real-time strategy sequel.
Beyond throngs of eager gamers, the events will be attended by some of Blizzard’s top dogs, with Paris enjoying the company of StarCraft II director Dustin Browder, while fans in Stockholm will be met by Chris Sigaty, the game’s production director.
In terms of the remaining cities, lead technical artist Rob McNaughton will be in Berlin, lead software designer Carl Chimes will be in London, and game producer Tony Hsu will be in Moscow.
News of the special Euro launches, which was broken by the diligent newshounds at IncGamers, follows on from a similar midnight event Blizzard and EB Games have confirmed for Brisbane in Australia.
The Aussie launch will be attended by StarCraft II producer Kaeo Miller between 9:30pm and midnight on July 26. It will also include a host of swag-heavy competitions for the pubic to participate in while waiting for midnight to finally roll around.
All of the pre-launch events announced for Europe will also be staging a selection of contents and challenges through which plenty of gaming goodies will be doled out to lucky winners ahead of the witching hour.
