A much-needed boost for PSN? Image: Sony.
With the PlayStation Network (PSN) back up and running across the United States, it would appear Sony is keen to deflect any more criticisms regarding its recent data breach by keeping gamers firmly focused on the resurrected multiplayer service.
Specifically, while disgruntled PSN users can look forward to an official apology in the shape of temporarily free access to goodies on PlayStation Plus, Sony Computer Entertainment has unveiled Starhawk, the official sequel to 2007’s epic Warhawk.
Currently in production as a PlayStation 3 exclusive through Austin-based developer LightBox Interactive, Starhawk’s gameplay will reportedly follow Warhawk’s initial blueprint by offering up a similar blend of ground and aerial-based action.
"[Spacehawk has] got the same assets, but it’s bigger and better," teased Dylan Jobe, president of LightBox Interactive while speaking with GameTrailers TV.
Expanding appeal beyond just 32-player multiplayer, Starhawk will arrive as the first series entrant to carry a single-player component.
The newly revamped action will also offer up Build & Battle, a (StarCraft-esque?) real-time strategy element enabling players to quickly create and distribute buildings and units across the battlefield.
"The combination a run-and-gun, frenetic gameplay style with our advanced Build & Battle system will truly move the genre forward offering new strategic and tactical options for the player," added Scott Steinberg, vice president of product marketing at Sony.
