While this may come as something of a surprise, Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer is more than a little confident regarding the software corporation’s upcoming computer operating system. You may have heard of it, it’s called Windows 7 (or something like that).

In fact, with Windows 7 due to launch in October, Ballmer has become so enthused by Microsoft’s newest operating platform that he today waxed lyrical regarding its features, its importance and its imminent impact on the computer industry.

Speaking through a letter released to business partners and developers, Ballmer was keen to point out that Windows 7 represents the very pinnacle of the operating system product line that Microsoft has become famous for.

“Windows 7 is the best PC operating system we have ever built,” he trumpeted before going on to enthuse about the system’s streamlined interface and its contributing security, management, and energy-efficient features.

“I believe the new normal requires a kind of efficiency built on technology innovations that enable businesses and organizations to simultaneously drive cost savings, improve productivity, and speed innovation,” he added.

Microsoft’s outspoken CEO also believes Windows 7 will enable business users to increase billable hours for mobile workers to around $600 USD per computer, which could return “the equivalent of one-half percent of the company’s gross annual revenue to the bottom line.”

While already available to Microsoft business partners, Windows 7 and Ballmer’s boasts will be put to the real test when the Vista-based operating system is officially launched to general consumers on October 22.
