Having recently shouted from the rooftops that Kindle eBooks are outselling tradition hardback publications through its online store, Amazon has this week taken to the slates once again to further boast of its achievements, the appeal of Kindle, and the momentum of digital books.

Specifically, Amazon has announced that Swedish author Stieg Larsson, the creator of the international best-selling Millennium Trilogy, has become the first author to sell more than one million Kindle books. And, to mark the moment, Amazon has also officially labelled Larsson as the very first member of its newly formed “Kindle Million Club”.

“Larsson’s books have captivated millions of readers around the world and ignited a voracious interest in the lives of its main characters Lisbeth Salander and Michael Blomqvist,” enthused Russ Grandinetti, vice president of Kindle Content at Amazon. “It’s been exciting to have been a part of introducing so many people to these great books.”

In terms of breaking down the digital appeal of Larsson’s body of work, all three of the books making up the Millennium Trilogy (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest) are now firmly placed within the top 10 best-selling Kindle books of all time.

Stieg Larsson, who served as the editor-in-chief for Expo magazine and was also an expert on antidemocratic right-wing extremist organisations, died in 2004 – shortly after delivering the manuscripts for the Millennium Trilogy.

The U.S. Kindle Store presently carries more than 630,000 titles, including 109 of the 111 publications populating the famous New York Times bestsellers list. More than 510,000 of the store’s titles are available at $9.99 USD or less.
